Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM)Eco-sustainability through Inquiry-Based Learning
Special Student Development Programmes Offered
Developing future problem solvers: The school was awarded the MOE Niche Programme in Environment education in 2010. This programme was refreshed to become the school’s Applied Learning Programme (ALP) – Eco-sustainability through Inquiry-based Learning in 2015. It offers a robust interdisciplinary curriculum for students to see the vital connections between text-book knowledge and personal skills to solve problems and arrive at useful outcomes. This three-year programme provides students the opportunity to engage in inquiry and research to apply science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in real time and real situations. The partnerships with Community College, a school in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA, Singapore Science Centre, local companies and the offering of Advanced Elective Modules will excite and stimulate the students’ interest and thinking through hands-on projects, first hand observations at industrial visits and field investigations. Building life skills for the workplace and society: Living Values through the Arts, the school’s Learning for Life Programme (LLP), seeks to provide students with a unique blend of socio-emotional and aesthetic domains of learning to empower students with the knowledge, social and emotional skills and values to thrive for life. All students will acquire music and dance skills and have the opportunity to apply project management skills to the creation and development of performances for social causes. The school will delve into working with relevant examination boards to grant accreditation to students who have secured high levels of proficiency in the arts. Other special programmes: All students are given opportunities to attain the National Youth Achievement Award (Bronze) through participation in Outdoor Adventure Camps and local and overseas Values-in-Education (VIA) programmes.
