Special Student Development Programmes Offered
The school has 2 distinctive programmes for students. In embracing the challenges of the 21st century, Damai seeks to anchor its students on sound values and develop them as leaders of good character with a strong sense of belonging to school and nation. Through our Learning for Life Programme (LLP – Character, Citizenship & Leadership Development through Water Sports, we develop our students to become Committed, Competent and Compassionate Leaders with sound character and an appreciation for life-long fitness. Through a tiered experience which introduces Damaians to water sports such as swimming, kayaking, dragon boating, wakeboarding and sailing, students also learn to appreciate ‘water’ not just as a precious resource, but to understand its qualities and value to Singapore and the world. The school continues to use the ‘Singapore Water Story’ to inspire students, motivating them to lead and overcome constraints and future challenges like our island state. Our STEM-Applied Learning Programme (ALP) in Health Sciences and Healthcare Technology aims to provide authentic learning contexts and platforms for students to apply classroom learning in a real-world context, acquire complex problem solving skills and widen perspectives on the healthcare and health sciences industries. The conducive learning environment fosters team work and open-ended tinkering to enable students develop 21st Century Competencies such as Global Awareness, Critical and Inventive Thinking and Information and Communication Skills and an innovative spirit. STEM-ALP also aims to create awareness and deepen learning on health-related issues, such as nutritional sciences, infectious diseases, healthcare technologies and palliative care for the disabled and elderly. Our extensive partnership with Nanyang Polytechnic (School of Health Sciences) exposes students to the developments in the healthcare sector and allows them to gain deeper insights into healthcare and health sciences related careers.
