Special Student Development Programmes Offered
BVSS focuses its STEM-based Applied Learning Programme (ALP) on ‘Clean Energy and Environmental Technology. It involves the study of the environment as part of our natural resource and the impact of human activities, perceptions and policies on the environment. The programme is delivered to all lower secondary students through a formal curriculum integrating D&T and our school-based modular lower secondary Science curriculum. Our I&E programme complements the ALP by equipping students with critical thinking skills to explore and communicate their ideas on solutions to environmental problems and challenges. Some of our ex-students have pursued environment-related courses at institutions of higher learning and made significant contributions to society at large. BVSS delivers its Learning for Life (LLP) – ‘Learning the Arts, Living the Values – Character Education through Drama’ via Literature and Social Studies lessons for lower secondary students. This complements the robust school-wide and developmental CCE Programme which includes cohort and modular leadership training, life-skills training and Education Career Guidance. Learning at BVSS is centred on providing and designing engaging experiences through authentic and meaningful learning tasks. Harnessing ICT affordances through iPAD apps and google platforms is one of the key approaches in enhancing student engagement. Other key school-wide programmes offered include: A Whole-School Approach for the learning of English Language and critical thinking skills, FORTE (Work Experience opportunities, Media Literacy, Digital Animation, Social Etiquette), Sec 3 Overseas Camp, Sec 1 and 2 Learning of Algebra through AlgeCards (MOE Innergy Award), HATS (Science Talent Management), Sec 2 Food Science Education Module, Lower Secondary Modular Lessons (Art/Lit, Chem/Phy/Bio, FCE/D&T), Internationalisation (Overseas Service Learning, Inter-disciplinary Overseas Study Trips, Overseas Immersion) and Authentic Learn
