Special Student Development Programmes Offered
Through our holistic curriculum, the school works towards being ‘A Premier School of Choice, Nurturing a Leader in Every Learner’. Building on the school’s strengths in Geography and the Sciences, the school embarked on an Applied Learning Programme (ALP) which focuses on cultivating Disciplined and Synthesising Minds (based on Howard Gardner’s 5 Minds for the Future) through investigative thinking. Emphasis is on the application of thinking skills, connecting knowledge across subject disciplines and applying these skills in authentic settings. The ALP lays a strong foundation in our students so that they will gain a competitive edge in the future. In line with the school’s motto ‘Dare to Serve’, the school started the Learning for Life Programme (LLP) focussing on Community Youth Leadership in 2015. The LLP aims to grow our students in Respectful and Ethical Minds (based on Howard Gardner’s 5 Minds for the Future), to be leaders who are aware of the needs of the community and, champion and advocate for them. Through school programmes, such the annual Quest Learning Festival, leadership development programmes and overseas immersion programmes, students are provided with meaningful learning experiences for them to grow as a Community Youth Leader. The school leverages on the National Youth Achievement Award (NYAA) to achieve its mission to nurture a leader in EVERY learner. The programme develops self-reliance, perseverance, personal responsibility and responsibility to society and the nation. Students from Secondary 2 to Secondary 5 have participated in the NYAA since 2009. In 2014, 215 Bronze Awards were awarded to Secondary 3 cohort and 89 Silver Awards to the Secondary 4 cohort. With strong processes in place, the school was recognised for the 1000th NYAA awardee in 2013 and received an affirmation from our Minister for Education. Our other accolades include the LOTUS Award for our pervasive Green Efforts and the sustained achievements of our CCA Groups.
