Other school features and achievements

  In 2012, the school was awarded the Lee Hsien Award for Innovations in the Normal Programme. The school achieved its School Distinction award, Best Practice Award in Teaching and Learning and Staff Well-Being, and Partners Award in 2013. We were also recertified for the Singapore Quality Class Award in 2013. Our performing Arts CCAs achieved 4 Distinctions and 1 Commendation in the 2015 SYF. Members of our staff also achieved recognition for excellence in their work and committment to our students. These included Outstanding Youth in Education Award (2014), Inspiring English Teacher award (2014) and Academy Award (2014).

Special Student Development Programmes Offered

Our teaching and learning is anchored upon our innovative pedagogical framework, ‘AI3R’, (Authentic, Integrated, Independent, Interactive and Reflective), which ensures that effective teaching and engaged learning takes place in every classroom. We develop critical thinking in our lessons through the the use of the Elements of Thought as a school-wide approach. Our Applied Learning Programme, ‘Project DRIVE!’ aims to make the learning of Humanities and Languages come alive by offering students a Diversity of subjects in the Humanities; making learning Relevant through authentic learning experiences related to real-world situations and promoting Interest in reading. We Value add to our students by enhancing their global awareness and cultural literacy through taking mutiple perspectives in analysing current affairs; and Enrich them through fostering partnerships to support learning. Our Learning for Life Programme in Music and Performing Arts aims to develop our students into cultured citizens, reflective learners and refined performers. Our approach ‘SHINE’ enables our students to engage in Self-discovery of interests and abilities, develop greater cultural and Heritage appreciation, and engage in Interactive and collaborative learning. Students also eNgage the community, and achieve Excellence in artistic expressions. The school’s values-based Character and Citizenship Education programme serves to develop students who have self-mastery (Sec 1), the ability to work with others (Sec 2), servant leadership (Sec 3), and the drive to fulfil their aspirations (Sec 4 and 5). Programmes that provide holistic learning experiences include the CCAs, the Sec 3 Outdoor Adventure Camp, the Elective Modules and Befrienders programme for Normal Programme students, learning journeys, overseas trips, VIA projects and leadership training programmes.
