Special Student Development Programmes Offered
In JSS, we value every student, believing that they can contribute meaningfully to the society. Our Media Literacy Curriculum is offered to all lower Secondary students. It is specially designed to nurture discerning and responsible consumers and producers of media messages to help them navigate the information rich cyber landscape. Building on our heritage of sporting excellence, sports was identified as the driver for the school’s Learning for Life Programme (LLP). Guided by the belief that sports will positively impact physical, psychological and social well-being, our LLP leverages participation in sports to build students’ physical fitness and nurture strong character and desired values. Inspiring Student Passion in Recreational Endeavours (InSPire) seeks to provide opportunities for our students to discover interest areas beyond core curriculum. Under InSPire, taught modules introduced takes into account emerging industry trends in ‘Aesthetic & Culture’, ‘Science & Technology’ and ‘Media & Info Technology’, which also provides insights to possible post-secondary and career options available. Project[COM]passion seeks to grow in our students’ an appreciation of the needs of the less fortunate in the community, the belief that they can make a difference to the lives of others, and to act on this belief. Students are encouraged to take initiative in planning and implementing meaningful improvement projects to benefit the community. Our JSS Research Scholarship Programme introduced in 2004 is a four year talent research-based programme. It offers opportunities to broaden our students’ perspectives about issues and cultivate good team dynamics and skills necessary for the future. While equipping our students with foundational research skills, the programme encourages them to devote their talents to positively impact the community.
