Special Student Development Programmes Offered

Balestier Hill Sec is committed to delivering a holistic learning experience and a value-added education that combines academic achievement with strong character, leadership and skills development programmes. Our Learning for Life Programme: Developing Character through Outdoor Education is based on DARE viz. Discover (Sec 1), Adventure (Sec 2), Resilience (Sec 3) and Empowerment (Sec 4/5). Through land-based and water-based adventures culminating in a mountaineering experience, the programme provides our students with opportunities to learn outdoor skills, project management skills and decision-making skills. Our teachers guide students through the various stages of planning, organising, implementing and structured reflection, and students hone their leadership skills and develop strong character traits of resilience, responsibility and respect. Our Applied Learning Programme: Man and the Environment – Building 21st Century Competencies through Environmental Education aims to instil a love for Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Humanities by understanding its relevance, while applying knowledge and skills through working on authentic environmental issues. Students will learn to exercise judgement on ethics and practices in the management of resources; develop appreciation, care and responsibility for the quality of the environment; and respect and sensitivity towards the attitudes, values and beliefs of people in different environments. Our Aspiring Scholars Programme (ASP) is designed to provide students with enriched and empowering developmental opportunities both locally and overseas that will develop them to be future-ready global citizens and active community leaders. The Internationalisation Programme in the school includes exchange programmes with schools in Mihara City (Japan), Shanghai (China), Indonesia and Malaysia.
