Special Student Development Programmes Offered
The school’s distinctive programme is Developing Leadership and Character through Character and Citizenship Education (CCE). Opportunities are provided for students to collaborate and lead their peers in level-wide Values-in-Action (VIA) projects. In collaboration with the Kolam Ayer Youth Executive Committee, the ‘Dialogue with Minister’ Series gives Bendemeerians the opportunity to voice their views on issues affecting their community. The school’s Internationalisation and Twinning Programmes give every student the opportunity to travel abroad. In collaboration with the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), the school runs an Aviation module as part of its Career Guidance programme. The Sequoia and NTcipate Life programmes are specially customised to engage N(A) and N(T) students through experiential learning experiences to discover their aspirations and fulfil their potential. The school’s Applied Learning Programme (ALP), ‘Making Science Alive through Authentic Problem Based Learning’ helps students develop an appreciation of concepts and principles related to Health Science through problem based learning (PBL). Learning is engaging in and out of the classroom as teachers adopt research-based teaching methodologies, such as inquiry-based, problem-based, and cooperative and collaborative learning, to deepen and enrich students’ understanding and equip them with 21st century competencies. Innovative programmes include our Dramaworkz programme which uses drama to develop confident and expressive speakers, and the BackPackLIVE!, a projects which uses a web-based integrated learning and assessment system to enhance students’ competencies in comprehension and critical thinking skills in the learning of the Mother Tongue language. Students’ interests and talents are further developed through programmes like the Mathematics Learning Trail, the Maths Olympiad and the Design Skills Enrichment for D&T students.
